the birth of a convert

last night, i picked up my new ride from the boy’s house. her name is gabrielle, and she rides like a dream. what’s more is her nearly flawless bluish-greenish hue almost seems it was made just for me – kudos to the ebay seller who didn’t lead me astray. and naturally, all the love the boy put into building her was deliberate and painstaking. my expressions of gratitude still seem paltry in comparison.

for the longest time, the thought of switching from a mountain bike (lovingly referred to as “hank the tank”) to a sprite singlespeed seemed daunting at best.

but now that i am a convert, i can’t imagine going back to granny-style riding. exerting extra effort but not really gaining any more momentum, flipping through gears in hopes that my derailleur cooperates, and cursing the knobby tires in 30+ mph chicago winds. (and to think, i used to prefer fatter tires for the feeling of safety. yeah, just like SUVs have a lower rollover rate. pfft.)

thank you, naz, for pressuring me to make the switch. my eyes have been opened.
