6th sense defused

over the past few weeks, i’ve tapped into an alternative state of my being whereby i’ve sensed the coming of things. these “things” are primarily in the form of long-lost friends attempting to reconnect, as well as current participants in my life subconsciously beckoning for a phone call and me naturally obliging.

so, yeah, i’ve been predicting phone calls. without the use of my caller ID display. pretty impressive? get me a crystal ball and lots of clinky bracelets, and i’ve got myself a side income.

but yesterday i was just plain uneasy. there were no phone calls to make or be had. and in the evening, after stepping outside to check my snail mail, i returned to the homestead to find shaun the dog™ laying in his crate, which in recent months has become more a coffee table of sorts for bike gear. he has full reign of the house and my furniture, so for the life of me, i can’t figure out what the catalyst was for his refuge. and i scoured the apartment for piddle mishaps but found nothing.

something seemed amiss.

earlier in the day, i took the el home in order to take shaun out for his lunch-time relief. however, a normally one-hour roundtrip endeavor, ended up lasting nearly two hours. thank goodness for a slow day at work where i wasn’t missed.

i stood on the blue line platform waiting for a northbound train to take me home, when on more than one occasion, a garbled message overhead attempted to announce train delays. the cause, from what i could gather, was “police activity.”

i’m not paranoid, but admittedly, every once in awhile, thanks to the country’s color-coded security alerts, the big city and its big city transport becomes daunting to me. and yesterday, my senses were in overdrive.

obviously i made it home without incident, my alleged sixth sense causing a ruckus in my brain for no reason, yet i promised myself that my bike will carry me home on all occasions. certainly, it is not incident-free either, but at least i can keep the buck seventy-five for laundry and play chicken with on-coming traffic at my own volition.
