nothing of consequence
i swore this writing outlet wouldn’t be used as a medium for run-ins with the mundane of daily life. however, having not written anything for two weeks, i feel the need to pen something, anything not related to catastrophic weather, rising gas prices, failing leadership and increasing self-anxiety with all of it.
so, here are some tidbits:
i. i went to the dentist earlier this week. 28 years, and still not a single cavity. i left with the requisite toothbrush and box of floss and a stern instruction to floss twice a day. i can’t even floss once a week let alone daily. twice even. although, i have done it once today already. could this be a new frontier for me with regard to the health of my gums?
ii. shaun the dog is starting to tune more into his senses. it wasn’t long ago that every passerby warranted a butt wiggle. but these days, his butt is becoming more selective. in no way has he turned into a bad-ass not to be fucked with by anyone, but i can tell his little 1-year old doggie brain is separating the good auras from the bad auras in my neighborhood. and this pleases me.
ii.1 i walked to the record store the other night alone because it’s a relatively short walk and i didn’t feel like bustin’ out the U-lock to lock up my bike for a mere 10 minutes. and i left shaun at home because, well, reckless records doesn’t allow drinks let alone hyperactive boxers in their store. and being a paranoid dog owner, i’m not of the mindset to “park” my dog outside while i shop. but in all honesty, i wish i had shaun with me. maybe it’s because i hardly walk anywhere without him these days or maybe because as i get older, the more alert and conscious i am of my surroundings, thereby conjuring up images of ominous situations. i had no alley mishaps or creepy faces staring me down or unnerving catcalls, but the companionship of my dog would have been welcome. besides, he could always protect me from perpetrators with his evil tongue lashes.
iii. i have a day off from work tomorrow to prepare for a weekend road trip to southern illinois. so as with any trip involving me, the boy and the dog, stories are surely to be had.
