beyond 2000
earlier this week on my commute back home from work, i looked down at my odometer to see that i passed 2000 miles on my bike. 2000 miles. i purchased that odometer late last july, so in just over a year, i peddled my little arse 2000 miles. doing the calculations, that’s about 170 miles a month.
and to be honest, that’s just not good enough. don’t get me wrong, 2000 miles seems to be some kind of feat, not just in mileage, but the money saved in commuting costs, the headaches not endured with public transport, the pollutants i’m not adding to the atmosphere. but having nearly tripled my commute since late april (going from a paltry 6 miles to an impressive 16-mile daily commute), i’m now turning over 100 miles about every 8-10 days.
so, if i have my way, and the weather holds up even in the winter—because, i’ll be honest, riding in the snow and ice and blistery winds remains an obstacle for motivation—i’d like my odometer to be sitting pretty at a minimum of 5000 miles this time next year, but preferrably 6000 miles. i guess we’ll wait and see.
