camping out in our old home

here we sit, the boy and i, on the floor of our soon-to-be old apartment.

feels like camping

the truck is packed and on its way westbound. we’ll be reunited with our stuff one week from today in our new apartment, in the area of SOMA in san francisco.

in the works

all done!

i’d by lying if i said i won’t miss chicago. after all my ranting and raving from the past few winters, this city holds a lot of history for me. it was my first major move. a move that would never have been done had i not spent half a year in another major metropolitan area (read: london). i grew a bit in london as my courage and curiosity unfolded, and then i matured by leaps and bounds during my nearly nine years in chicago.

but there comes a time when you outgrow your surroundings. where the challenges are limited to trudging through snow and waiting for public transportation to arrive and maneuvering through cubs’ traffic via bike. admittedly, i want to be inspired again, where i can look past these daily grinds. and sadly, this town is no longer my muse.

i’m not saying that san francisco is the end all, be all. but i know that my anxiousness and excitement of residing in a new environment will compensate greatly for traits i’ve been lacking for the past few years of restlessness. and so help me god, i better walk this talk once i get settled, or i really will be disappointed in myself.

as i spend one last night in this city, i will treasure most those around me. some were integral parts of living, others occasional friends, but all had their place in our lives. an important place in our lives. i wish i could scoop everyone up and relocate you guys with us, and we could all live happily ever after. but i know deep down, we will all meet again. be it over the internets during virtual correspondence or a trip back to chicago or visitors to SF, the spirit of our relationships will remain intact.
