and we're here!

well, we’ve been in san francisco for a little over a week now. it still feels surreal, but in a good way. but even having said that, it also feels like home. not having a job yet, obviously i have no real routine other than to get up, walk shaun the dog™ and prowl the internets both for work but also for some comforts from chicago. i’ll be the first to admit that i was really down on that city. honestly, though, i don’t miss it, but i do miss the people. that’s something that can never be replaced or forgotten.

the boy and i keep talking about how we both knew we’d end up in SF someday; premonitions of sorts we both had even prior to meeting each other. it took some doing, both logistical and financial planning, and even in retrospect, it wasn’t as difficult a climb as i thought it’d be. sure, the apartment hunting sucked, but apartment hunting sucks everywhere. it sucked in st. louis. it sucked in chicago. so naturally, it was going to suck in SF. and once naz and i figured out how to divy up the responsibilities for keeping the move as smooth as possible, things started to fall into place.

the fun begins

(our place no longer looks like the photo above. we were able to get everything sorted in less than three days. we are awaiting the delivery of our couch, so then i’ll take proper non-iphone photos of the place.)

the sun has been out every day save for a slight cold snap this past weekend, and i have yet to feel my mood dampen. naturally, everything is still so new, and the honeymoon stage is still firmly in place. my sister comes to town this weekend as well, so i get to play tour guide in a town i barely know. things are looking up.

oh, and i’d be a tool not to mention the generosity of andrew and cinnamon. andrew flew with naz as a secondary cat herder for the plane ride, and cinnamon was my co-pilot on the drive in their car, sparky, with shaun. both were fun trips in their own way (though, i’m glad i didn’t witness the frothing of the cats during take-off and landing).

i learned that driving across the country is a bit overrated as it’s actually quite bland. really the only places worth noting were some scant parts of utah and then, of course, entering california. nebraska and nevada=blah. but i’m glad i was able to get some of the EDGE network to at least keep me entertained with twitter and flickr. as i continue to say, i will always have the internets. it keeps people connected.
